Microgreen growing

This week we are growing micro-greens. We all got into groups and got ice cream containers. We got Lincoln from Wonder Project to help us cut the holes. after we got given a grow mat cut to fit in our ice cream container and then we watered the grow mat. After that we soaked the seeds in water for 5 minutes and added them to our grow mat, we made sure that they were spread evenly and not to close to each other.

Now its day three and they are grown not fully but they have grown so much in three days!

We used some censors which are... Light, conductivity, temp and humidity.

My group is Me, Libby, Jordan, Charlie and Maraea.

Here are some photos.

Lion Dance!

On Wednesday in period 1 we went to the hall to learn a lion dance. The man taught us some moves (Like a cat)

There were 4 costumes, White, Yellow, Orange and Red. The interior in the head was made of bamboo and was pretty cool to look at. The first 4 pairs went up and did some moves that looked like they were a cat and  it was pretty funny.

There was a red string inside the lion head so you could blink the eyes and flap a trap door so you could open and close the mouth. I was the head and Libby was the body and I had to set the lion head on my shoulders which was pretty hard and sore. Here are some photos.

It was Very Very Fun. (We were the White one)

Discover China Week

On the Last week of term 3 it was  Discover China Week.

I only did 2 of them because I was sick.

the first one we did was calligraphy. We wrote a few words for practise then we wrote the words on a piece of rice paper.

The second thing I we did was a dance. Were were holding fans that when you opened was really loud. We learnt the dance which was fun. The lady who was doing the fan dance showed us an ocean fan which is down below and it was very smooth and cool.

I wish I got to do the instrument where you got to play it.

Here is my Calligraphy.

Otaki Youth Space!

On Wednesday the Kapiti council came to our class to do a workshop. What they did was different Activities to see what we would like for a Youth Space in Otaki.

There were about 6 or 7 activities that we did in rotations.

Questions!

What would it include?

I think it would include different Activities. Maybe some games for the younger people. I think it could also have 1 or 2 iPad's and if you were going to go on them you could have a certain amount of time.

Where would it be?

I would say it could be somewhere nice not in the town but somewhere where it would be nice outside and room for lots of outside Activities.

What sort of space would you you want it to be?

I would want it to be a Space where everyone would feel welcome.

I hope the youth space in Otaki will be a fun place where kids can hangout after school or a place where older people can hang out with there friends. It will also welcome everyone to join in with the fun!

Here are some photos from when they came to our class:

Rockets. Post by Sammy

Yesterday We flew practise rockets through the air.
My group was Me, Libby and Jayden. We made a google drawing about what we recorded yesterday. We were doing it outside and the weather was quite good.
Some of the rockets went CRAZY, some went high and the others went far. After we did everyone's we put on fins and they went pretty well.

I observed that when the rockets had less water they went higher. Like when we did 700ml of water and 60 psi it went all crazy and not high.
I think less water works more because its lighter and more water like what we did first makes it heaver and makes it go crazy.

Here is the table of what we recorded while we were outside.

Wind Cars By Sammy!

During week 7 We have been Making sail cars. I made my sail car pink. It was really fun making the sail cars. I used paper, Card, Hot Glue, Tape, Wheels, straws and skewers. We raced our cars which was a lot of fun! I really liked seeing what people had made and seeing them race.

What was good about my car was it was fast but not as fast as everyone else's
What didn't go well is it went to one side because of the sail. It also Wasn't to fast

I really like my car and I'm excited to make boats next!

Self portrait Paintings By Sammy!

During the week we have been Making self portraits of ourselves! I will give you some steps of how we did it!

1. We got some wood boards and covered it with newspaper and glue.

2.We found 10 or 8 words about us. Like mine was Sport, Smile, Legend, Happy, Big heart, Cricket, Netball, NZ!

3.This was one of my favourite parts... PAINTING! I chose an angle paint with nice bright colours.

4.I used some Practice paper to practice Tracing the drawing with pastel on the bottom of a picture of me and used a pencil to trace over it.

5.After we had done the tracing we went onto our outlines with black paint to see the painting better to see.

I found step 3 my favourite part of it all Because you got to choose your colours that you like!

But I found step 5 the outlining a little tricky Because I was worried I would go outside the line!
